Genre is a style or category of Art, Music or Literature, they are used as a way to categorize different products that share similar features or characteristics.
Genres are particularly important in the media and film industries because they:
- Help quickly establish differences between different media forms.
- Help to establish certain codes and conventions that film makers can follow in order to make the product look a certain way, achieve a certain effect & attract a specific audience.
- Help to establish certain expectations and familiarity in audiences.
- Help audiences to develop personal tastes around genre and consumption ( what they do and don't like).

My favourite genres are Comedy, Action and Animated.

Comedy- I like comedy movies because they are funny, the actors that act in them are usually good in their field (if certain actors act in a movie it will always be good) and the plot in always interesting to me. This is a scene from a comedy movie which I have seen and which I enjoyed, it is called 21 jump street. There are other movies such as Get hard, The Wedding Ringer, Friday and Water Boy which I enjoyed mostly because the plot was interesting or the actors in the movie were good.


Action- I like action movies because there are interesting, most if not all of the action movies I have watched have had an interesting story line which often leads to a sequel. They are also action packed, there is never a dull moment as there is always something exploding to catch your attention or an eye catching scene e.g. a fight scene. Action movies also keep you guessing what will happen next in the movie because at one moment you can forget a character exists then they can appear out of no where and be the main antagonist. This is a scene from the movie Kingsman The Secret Service, this movie was very interesting as the plot was good and they made sure the viewer was never bored. There are other action movies I have enjoyed such as Fast and Furious 7, Avengers and X-Men Days of Future Past.


Animated- I like animated movies because they are funny (usually because the characters are goofy) and interesting because the plot/story line is different to normal movies (this is because animated characters can do things normal people can't do). This is a scene from space jam this is a movie which they mix animated characters with normal humans, this makes it interesting as you can see the contrast between humans and cartoons. There are other animated movies which I enjoyed such as Lion king, Wreck it Ralph and Toy Story.
