What makes a good title sequence?
Kyle Cooper is a famous director and designer of film title sequences. He is accredited as the man who revitalised the main title sequence as an art form.
According to him, a good title sequence should dovetail seamlessly into the film by setting an expectation, getting the audience excited and making them forget about everything else.
The font used in the film "Seven" was really important, as it looked as if it was handwritten, trying to create an imagery and portray the personality of the serial killer who keeps his journals and develops his own optical. This adds to the overall tone and impression and makes the typography in service of the story.
One of Cooper's favourite title sequences is "Deadzone", as he liked the simple typography, and the music which played overtime made the setting very mysterious.
"To Kill a Mocking Bird" also made impression on him because he believes the way the marbles distort the background was beautifully photographed and the form of horizontal lines and round objects made a good contrast.
