The importance of sound
Sound is used in film to establish tone, atmosphere and to help give the audience clues about the plot, characters or to identify the genre of the film. IT is also used to help 'suspend disbelief' to create realism for the viewer and heighten their experience of the film.
During lesson the class listened to a title sequence without sound and we all agreed that without sound it was hard to concentrate because it was boring, you couldn't guess the genre because the music in the background usually give the viewer a hint to the genre. The tile sequence was also less interesting as there was a dull atmosphere, which also caused there to be no intensity. However when we watched the same title sequence with sound we were able to guess the genre almost immediately, this was because the music was synchronous.
