Blog Post18-Planning and storyboard for "The Breakfast Club" remake

Planning decisions and storyboard for the remake of "The Breakfast Club"

For this activity we've decided to do a remake on the title sequence of the movie "The Breakfast Club". We choose it because it's a teen film, so it will relate to our target audience.
To be able to remake it, we had to plan and prepare and we've managed to do this by creating a storyboard, a shot list and using the script from the real movie, which are displayed below:

Shot1 includes a 10 second wide shot of the college building, which is also known as an establishing shot and helped us create the setting and give an idea what the movie will be about.
The rest are shots of different locations inside the college such as canteen, corridors and garden which contributed to the building up of the theme and storyline of the title sequence.
Mostly wide shots were used in order to establish and give an overall impression.

Unlike the first 6 shots of our remake, shot 7,8,9,10,11 and 12 mainly consisted of close ups and mid shots as we wanted to focus on the details of the college after giving an overall impression. Using close ups helps to make the audience pay attention to little details about the building that cannot be noticed in the wide shots. This gets the viewer engaged and and interested in the story as they start to build up specific thoughts and opinions of what is going to happen later on.

The last 3 shots also create an atmosphere and mood. For example, shot 14 is showing that it is a teen film as voting for prom queen is something typical that colleges do.
Shot 15, however is creating a negative impression of the college due to the disturbing graffiti on the lockers.
